ASTEP is a Two-Part Education Program
As an Introductory Course Provider, you are ensuring adherence to all program requirements and to promote ASTEP in its entirety. ASTEP is not finalized until each student has successfully completed Part I and Part II of the program.

The 80-Hour Introductory Course contains practical and didactic training, either held at your facility or in combination with an academic institution. The course concludes with the successful completion of the introductory course final exam, which is available on the ASTEP website. |

The series of Online Self-Study Modules. Trainees are granted access to the modules after successful completion of the 80-Hour Introductory Course Final Exam. The modules are an essential resource as trainees prepare to take a sleep technologist certification exam: RST, RPSGT, CPSGT. |
Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR)
ASTEP is an approved STAR program with the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) and the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). As an ASTEP accredited Introductory Course Provider there is no need to apply for individual STAR status because ASTEP has obtained both:
- SELF-STUDY: ASTEP Online Self-Study Modules (RST Pathway E, RPSGT/CPSGT Pathway 1).
- FOCUSED: ASTEP 80-Hour Introductory Course and Online Self-Study Modules (RST Pathway B, CPSGT Pathway 3 and RPSGT Pathway 4).
Provider Accreditation Process
To be considered for Introductory Course Provider accreditation, you must submit a completed application, with all supporting documents and application fee for review. Upon approval, you will be able to offer the 80-Hour Introductory Course over a two-year period.
